Re: NLS - How does one determine what objects on BW should be nearlined

Hi Kate

 

  1. In BW the data archiving can be done for dso-s, cubes and spo-s. NLS should be used in case you need for example free up some space on the database of the BW system, however you want to be able to report on the data, which was removed from the database.
  2. If the archived data is partitioned or not, this depends on the archiving solution. (DB6, IQ, Datavard, etc).
  3. See pt 1. Cubes can be archived.
  4. Master Data in BW cannot be archived and would not make much sense
  5. Changelogs in BW cannot be archived and would not make much sense
  6. It wouldn't make sense to archive joblogs. The batch system should be reorganized with job sap_reorg_jobs.
  7. The archiving in an ERP/ECC system uses a different logic (mostly ADK) than data archiving in BW, so they are not comparable. Also the granularity of the data in BW is not the same as in ECC/ERP so archiving based on the fact, that something was archived in ECC would not make much sense.
